Bonnie Portelance
BIOGRAPHY
Bonnie Portelance is a Calgary-based multidisciplinary artist working in sepia-toned silver photography and textiles. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Arts from Toronto Metropolitan University and has lectured in photography at Daejin University in South Korea.
Her practice centers on an exploration of the human form, emphasizing its intricate details and textures through a restrained, sepia-toned photographic process that evokes both intimacy and timelessness. In parallel, her textile work engages themes of healing and mental health, using materiality and repetition as a means of processing and transformation.
Portelance’s work has been published in Beneath The Beauty (Insomniac Press, Toronto), Log-In Seoul, Sajin Yesul, and International Women Artists: Entering the Second Millennium (Alliance of Women Artists, California). Across disciplines, her practice reflects a sustained inquiry into embodiment, vulnerability, and restoration.
